Mican: Kiddie portrait session

This was the pictorial I did with Mican a few weeks before her 1st birthday party.  We did the session at the UP Diliman Campus on a Saturday morning.  I've done a lot of photoshoots in the campus but there are always new spots to discover everytime I go there, depending on the time of the day.  This was the first time for me to shoot on this particular area. And I love the combination of the golden morning sunlight, the leaves that were starting to turn brown, and the bamboo grass!:)

And Mican was such a darling to shoot too!:)

Mican was so easy to shoot from the very beginning. I think it really helped that she felt she could trust me because she saw that her mum and dad trusted me as well.

Love the bamboo!

Again, love the bamboo!:D

I didn't know which of the following photos I liked best so I decided to just post them all.

Second outfit.

Mican was trying to get hold of my camera.

Hello Kitty had to make an appearance because Mican was having a Hello Kitty-themed party.:)

Still reaching for my camera.:) Love her smile.

Ria: Boudoir photo session

What is boudoir photography? Here's one definition I got on the Internet:

Boudoir photography is a genre of photography that involves female subjects in sexually suggestive or sensual poses. It is distinct from erotic photography in its emphasis on the aesthetic qualities of the subject and the craftsmanship of the photographic process over the sexually stimulating nature of the image.

And another one:

To many, boudoir photography is considered the art of visually capturing beautiful, sensuous and sexy photos of regular women. Age (as long as you are of minimum legal age), how thin, how tall, doesn’t matter. The purpose of boudoir photography is to make women look great.

When Ria asked me if I do boudoir sessions, I told her I have never done one but would love to do it for her. We agreed to look at samples on the web and exchange ideas based on the style of photos that we liked. Ria sent me a link to a website and I was so glad to realize that we had the same vision on how the pictorial should go. I know some people would find these images too clean and wholesome but as the definition above states, I don't think boudoir photos should be confused with sexy photos in men's magazines (Yes, I've seen a lot of boudoir photos that just made me cringe. Hehehe.).  I believe boudoir photos should be more personal. Very personal. I wanted to take sexy and elegant photos that would still reflect Ria's bubbly personality.

Ria wanted to have this session as a surprise for her husband. When she got back to Sweden, she told me that he was very happy with the shots. We did have a lot more photos showing a bit more skin but Ria says her hubby wasn't too comfortable with the idea of them being published here so I have to respect that. I'm actually just so grateful that they let me post the ones below. So, here are the photos that made the cut. (Oh, and if you haven't seen them yet, check out Ria's other portraits first.)

When Ria asked me where we could do the session, I thought of Astoria Plaza right away.  I've done shoots there before, and I know how great the natural light of the rooms are. And more importantly, I know their rates are not as expensive as other hotels.

Again, a big thank you to Ian Lipa for the awesome job on Ria's hair and makeup.

I love these next two because they show how sexy Ria is, even without showing her body.;)

I love these next few shots because Ria's bright personality still shines through--even with just a blanket.:D   And they remind me of how much fun we had during the shoot.  There were just me, Pie, Ian (the make-up artist) in the room with Ria.  All ladies.  So, we made sure Ria was comfortable.  Her hands were shaking the whole time though because she was excited and nervous.  And by the end of the shoot, we were all just laughing about it.

One of my favorites.

Because I had a lot of fun doing Ria's boudoir pictorial, I would love to do more boudoir sessions. If you are interested, please shoot me an email at ging@ginglorenzo.com and we can talk about the schedule. For the next few months, I will be offering an introductory rate for boudoir sessions.:)

Can't seem to write but here are a few words and a photo just to let people know I'm still here...Hehehe.

It's been a week since I posted something on this blog. And I know I promised to put up Ria's boudoir session last Friday. I don't wanna bore everyone with excuses but I just got too busy the past few days and when I finally had time to sit down and blog, the words just wouldn't come. (It actually took me 10 minutes just to write that first part.:P) Anyway, I promise to get back into blogging more often...em...soon.:D

Meanwhile, here's a shot from a newborn session I did last weekend. This is Darla. Isn't she just lovely?

Ria: Just because

This was the first time for her to come back to her beloved Pinas in 8 long years. As soon as Ria found out she was going to be taking the month-long vacation, she started making big plans. She was going to visit Boracay and Hong Kong on her own. She was going to take driving lessons. She made a list of all the food that she HAD TO EAT while in the Philippines. (I saw the actual list. There had to be around a hundred items there!) AND she was going to have nice portraits taken of her.:)

Ria told me she spent hours on the internet looking at photographers' portfolios. Luckily, she chose me!:)

In the few hours that Pie and I spent with Ria, we learned a lot about her. We learned that one of the reasons she took this trip on her own was because she wanted some alone time before taking on a new job. We learned about her life in Sweden and about her hubby and kids. And we learned about her love affair with Pinoy food! You know that list I mentioned? It included Jollibee Chickenjoy, stuff from Goldilocks, and a lot of other dishes that she said she couldn't cook back home in Sweden. She loves Pinoy food so much that for her daughter's last birthday party, the theme was KAKANIN! Hehehe.

Ria is such an easy-going and open person who isn't afraid to go for what she wants. And from a photographer's perspective, it was so easy to shoot her because she allows herself to feel beautiful in front of the camera. I met up with her again just as she was headed to the airport to fly back to Sweden. And I really felt as if I was saying goodbye to an old friend.

Here are photos from one of the two portrait sessions we did. I will be posting her boudoir portraits tomorrow, so watch out for that.;) For this session, we just wanted some relaxed and fun shots that would capture Ria's personality.

We started the pictorial at the apartment that Ria rented out for her stay in Manila.  The place had interesting decor so I wanted to use it.

More relaxed shots, still in the apartment.

We originally just planned to shoot in UP because Ria wanted some outdoor shots and she said UP holds a lot of memories for her.

We got to UP at around 2PM.  The thing that I love about the campus is that you can find amazing light at any time of the day.

Thanks to Ian Lipa who did an excellent job on Ria's hair and makeup!

Ria was such a pro! I think she looks so pretty in this one!

Lovely!

A little twist on the hair and sunglasses. Oh, and dirty ice cream!:D

One of the last frames. I love the feel of this one.:)
